Hi!
I recently discovered that some ipod touch's screens are different than others in terms of gamma, contrast and color. I looked at many ipods and I came to a conclusion that production week 36,37,38 have slightly brighter screens with blue colorized menu, while screens from production week 39 an up, have a bit dimmer screens, with steel-color menu (same as itunes layout on PC or MAC). Also, I've found that screens prodcued before 39week, are worse for movies than week 39, 40, 41, 42 an up.

Here's a picture that I took for comparison two "same" ipods, but from two different production weeks (37th & 42th - I marked them which one comes from which week :) ). Both ipods have maximum brightness set:

As you can see the difference in screens is obvious...

ps: none of above ipods from pictures suffered "negative black problem" so that's not an issue....

Hmmm...that's weird. Maybe they built the "older" Touchs brighter than the "newer" ones.

WOOT! My first time being the first poster on macrumors, lol! :D

I posted a similar thread a while back. I had my week 41 replaced for a week 43 and on the newer ipod, the menus are far more grey as opposed to being more blue on the week 41. Also, the text appears to be slightly darker and more bold. There also seems to be fewer dead pixels on the week 43 (my reason for exchanging) but they are still there. To be honest, I don't think any ipod touch has a truly perfect screen. I wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

Noo. I have a week 38 and 39. I see no difference. Mine is a 39 and is jailbroken with 1.1.2. The 38 is my wifes and it is jailbroken with 1.1.1. Look identical.

Never a problem since day one. Not bragging, just stating fact.

Well there is definitely a difference in that picture and on the two ipods i had before. However, i think people read too much into the week number. I reckon apple may have changed the display when they ran out of the first set of parts.

It differs by which plant they were made at as well I think. From what I gather the first three numbers indicate which plant they were produced? Anyway, at the moment I have two weeks 41 purchased at separate stores (Apple Store, Best Buy) and the one from Apple is very different from the one from Best Buy. On the one from the Apple Store, Safari has the blue tint and is almost annoyingly bright when brightness is at 100%. Safari on the one from Best Buy has the gray tint and the brightness is about half of the other one. However, like all my previous iPod Touch's (except my first week 38) they crash like mad using Safari, Cover Flow and You Tube.
