Digital AV adapter mirroring smooth?

I've seen my friends ATV doing mirroring on his iPad but it seems laggy and games don't look smooth. Is the digital av adapter better at doing smooth mirroring?

Yes, but you're stuck with a cable. Not sure if you're limited to what apps work with the cable though.

If an app supports full screen via AirPlay will it be full screen on the digital adapter?

With the iPad 2 and New iPad you can mirror everything.
