Making a bold prediction - when Apple launch the full iPhone upgrade (versus iPhone 6S) they will replace the volume up/down buttons with a Digital Crown.

It offers many advantages over the current UP/DOWN buttons:-

- Offers variable rate ("analog") control versus on/off digital buttons - better for scrolling, zooming, adjusting sliders such as volume, brightness, fast forward/scrubbing in media
- Has additional dimensions such as turn, press, double press, press and hold
- Makes better precision games possible
- Makes iPhone controls more unique versus Android

You read it here first.

That will never happen.

And something to catch on the lip of your pocket as you pull it out, so it bobbles, flies and lands perfectly on the corner, making that fantastic shattering sound.

Thanks, I'll keep smooth edges. :)

Most people would break it off in less than a week. Having something hanging off a device that is constantly being pushed and pulled in and out of a pocket is a really bad idea.

The digital crown is on the watch out of necessity, lack of sufficient room for touch only control. A necessity the iPhone doesn't have.

More like you stole this idea. You're late on this one buddy.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

You can forge it out of specialized Al-you-minium or Steel made by Norse gods and it's still going to break off, get bent or otherwise fail.

Not gonna happen. You read it here (third or fourth by the time I hit submit).

No way. The crown is on the watch only because the screen is small. Apple mentioned this in the keynotes.

Force Touch and Taptic Engine in an iPhone, maybe, probably, but definitely not the crown.

Lol, I wouldn't take that bet, even if you gave me 1,000 to 1 odds.
Obviously this is NOT going to happen...
OP is either off his meds, or on some really good ones. =P

Each of you who doubts this send me your $1,000 now and if there isn't a Digital Crown announced September 5th 2016 I'll send each of you $2,000 back.

Probably.

Honestly hadn't seen that before. But either way, he sees the same inevitability I do.

I'll take your $1,000 bet. All of you.

If you are actually serious...
There are a variety of "escrow" type betting services online that would hold our $2000 until September of 2016, then give it to me when the 7 comes out without a watch crown. I would not feel the SLIGHTEST bit guilty about taking your money. This idea is beyond ludicrous.
Lol, how often are you turning volume up and down on your phone, that you need granular control?? This is the stupidest "prediction" I think I've ever heard.
Anyways... PM me, if you are really that desperate to give away your $.

Let me guess - among your friend you're not known for your sense of humor are you?

The "probably" above wasn't enough of a /s clue for you I guess.

Why would they have take a part that they only left on the watch to make it look more like a watch and slap it on the iPhone? Watches have crowns, phones don't!

Got it!
Your entire stupid thread is a joke.
*phew!* Thank the Gods.... I honestly thought you really were expecting a bulbous protruding knob off the side of iPhone 7, surrounded by the protective Rolex nook that you posted. I should've actually realized that that level of wackiness was obviously manufactured.
At any rate... apologies.
You don't see a lot of people starting non-serious threads to post moronic one-liners, masquerading as actual opinions, so I was caught unawares.
I suppose it is actually kinda funny. You seemed to be keeping a digital "straight face" during your whole description... so, as asinine as it sounded- I genuinely thought that's what you believed.
