Digital Crown hard to rotate (Ultra)

Yeah, this is the biggest reason I wear my Series 7 every day and leave the Ultra on my dresser.
The larger crown seems to dig into my skin underneath making it more difficult to turn. Also, due to the crown guard, you have less surface area to turn. You have to press the crown on the top, which pushes your watch down against your wrist.

Agree - same experience with mine. On wrist, seemed to have an issue, pulled off and crown was fairly easy. Finally figured out it was pushing in to the skin causing resistance. No big deal since figuring that out.

The crown on my first ultra was stiffer to rotate. When I exchanged mine because of a manufacturing defect, the crown on my replacement is a lot easier to turn. Almost feels like my series 7 did

I had that issue with almost all my previous Apple Watches. I used a very soft baby toothbrush with warm water and a drop of soap to clean around the crown. It never did any harm and on an Ultra shouldn’t be any problem at all. I haven’t had any such issue yet on my Ultra but I do have to remember to flex my wrist because the crown is larger and serrated and will bind on my skin unless I flex my wrist to pull it away from the skin. When I do that it rotates very smoothly.
I did have to modify my technique of using the crown... now I simple roll or brush across the side of the crown facing me lightly, without pushing down. Works perfectly and smoothly. The issue is with grasping the crown on both sides, or pushing down on the watch while using the crown. TO BE FAIR: I found a way that it works well, but the crown on other Apple Watches works ANY of the 3 ways I mentioned, rather than only 1 way. To me the design on the Ultra crown isn't ideal but like I said, I adapted in a way it works just fine for me.
I’ve just got my second ultra (had one in first release but returned it) and both straight out the box had a ‘stiffer’ crown. Maybe stuff is the wrong word, it rotates freely but not as quick and far as the normal Apple Watch (I’ve had series 4 and 8). If you spin the crown on the normal watch the screen flies down to the top or bottom if you’re scrolling, but it doesn’t in the ultra. You can’t ‘spin’ the crown in your ultra the same.
Are you sure it’s not catching on your skin underneath? That a big problem for me.
Mine is sometimes a lot harder, but it's because of the bigger diameter. I've actually had a bit of skin caught inbetween the crown and side button raised section. A bit like grinding gears! The resistance could be your skin 🙂
Yeah, makes no difference whether on or off the wrist. I don’t think it’s faulty, I think it’s just the design, the crown on standard watches feels loose in comparison.
