Digital Crown just went bust on my AW6, even after reset, it wasn't working. A shame, everything else is working though. If I request for a battery change, will Apple just change out the watch ?

What exactly is broken with it? I once thought mine was broken too...it didn't click or register. Turns out I just needed to put it under warm running water and turn/press the crown a few times to clean it out. Has been working perfectly fine since then.

Someone else will have to confirm, but I believe they test the device to make sure it's in working order first before doing a swap for the battery service. Also, do you qualify for battery service? The battery health has to be below 80%.

You might try cleaning around the crown. Sometimes there is dirt build up that prevents button from being fully depressed. It has happen to me several times, I use a small dental brush for getting between teeth with a little windex around the base of the button.

clean it as suggested above.
Do you have AC+?
Apple does not "battery replacement" unless health is < 80%, and, if that criteria is met, they'll give you refurbish. But, if you do not have AC+, if the crown is indeed "broken", they might charge you for repair for that too ...

I just cleaned it with dental floss and it seems to work again, this is very weird, so dust actually "spoils" the Digital Crown ?

I am a watchmaker and you would be hugely suprised if you how dirty watches are send in for repair.
Sometimes you need gloves and an ultrasonic cleaner to get even to the bare metal of the case. So yes do yourself a favor, once a week under the tapwater, so soap please for that will eventually remove the grease of the gasket from the stem of the crown.
