The new Keyboard that came with the 11.0.3 update is driving me crazy. Is there any way to disable the drag down key feature?

I'm new to Apple (IPad Pro 12.9). Always had an Android tablet before. The Android onscreen keyboard was nothing to write home about but I liked it much better than the Ipad's. I still have a month to decide if I want to keep the IPad as I bought it at Costco which has a 90 day return policy.

The auto correct on Ipad is much more obnoxious and less useful than Android's, and the cursor on Android is also much more controllable for editing the autocorrect's nonsense, tho I just learned a "secret" trick on Ipad - 2 fingers on keypad to manipulate the cursor - which does help some.

Various optional keyboards in Android seem to actually offer viable alternatives...and don't keep reverting to the original keypad all by themselves either.

Another problem I have with the Apple onscreen keyboard is that on most keys I can toggle to the character on the top of the key by holding it down, which is what you'd expect, but then sometimes, but not always, that doesn't work, especially with the "@/2" key. On that one I have to both hold down the key AND swipe it down to get the @ symbol. What's that all about?

There are a couple 3rd party keyboards in the App Store. Try SwiftKey maybe.

I tried Swiftkey but so far I haven't found one on the IPad that I like. I'm back to using the default keyboard. I just switched over from Android and what I don't get is I heard that Apple's apps are so much better than Android's, but when I look for a new keyboard app almost everything I see offered in the App store is some stupid colorful thing with emoji cartoons when all I want is a nice simple keyboard that won't mess with me and change my words around and put in periods and make it so difficult to go back and edit.

Something that has bugged me for a while.
Is there any way to make the keyboard smaller in landscape.
On a 12.9 pro, it takes half the screen.
I wish it was the same scale as in portrait mode :(

Same here, Mark, because when I'm typing on it I'm usually typing with one hand and holding it with the other and it's a long way from the right side of the keyboard to the left on the 12.9 in landscape. Anyway that's academic now because I returned my Ipad Pro and I'm back with Android which I prefer, especially the keyboard.

Gboard is also pretty good and Swype also recently updated their app after ages. I love the word swiping feature especially of these third party keyboards. I still don't get it why Apple still doesn't support that in their own keyboard.
