Apple plans to launch a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and multiple notebook models with Mini-LED backlit displays by the end of 2020, according to industry sources cited by Taiwanese publication DigiTimes.

This lines up with information shared earlier this week by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said Apple is developing six products with Mini-LED displays for release by the end of 2021, including new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 10.2-inch iPad, 7.9-inch iPad mini, 27-inch iMac Pro, 14-inch MacBook Pro, and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.

Kuo expects the new iMac Pro in particular to launch during the fourth quarter of 2020. Apple has not refreshed the iMac Pro since it was originally released in December 2017, so it is well overdue for an update.

DigiTimes claims that Apple will also adopt Mini-LED backlighting for "a few models of LCD monitors," but it is unclear if that refers to the iMac/iMac Pro or standalone displays. Apple's high-end Pro Display XDR uses 576 LEDs, but it is not a Mini-LED display. By comparison, the first iPad and MacBook models with Mini-LED backlighting are expected to have over 10,000 LEDs.

Kuo has previously said that Mini-LED backlit displays will allow for thinner and lighter product designs, while offering many of the same benefits of OLED displays used on the latest iPhones, including good wide color gamut performance, high contrast and dynamic range, and local dimming for truer blacks.

Kuo has also said that Taiwan's largest LED manufacturer Epistar will be one of Apple's suppliers for those iPad and MacBook models.

With how things are going with COVID-19, I won't be at all surprised if these products are delayed into the calendar year 2021...
I think Small event with employees only / silent release
Also devices not shipping right away as they could still be in assembly.

The cited article clearly states the display orders are scheduled for delivery by June. I don't understand where the expectations for a March release are coming from? This would rather make an September + October release of the new 14" and 16" MBP, iMac and iPad more likely. I guess Apple plans to finish 2020 with a Big Bang!

I pray that the next iPhone has mini LED so I can replace my ancient iPhone 6s+ with something that has a better screen.

OLED is the devil.

I sure hope the iPad Mini part of the rumor is true. I have an 11 inch Pro and a Mini 5, and the Pro rarely gets touched, the Mini with the new(er) processor is lightning fast, and the form is just right. And even supports Pencil now if you need it. I hope they keep develping it on a regular basis.

There has been a lot of chatter about an Apple March event, plus yesterday's Kuo report saying these were launching 'soon'. But I suspect it mostly wishful thinking from impatient buyers. It's a testament to how loyal Apple customers are.

yes all above is good and we need more

a.k.a hold on to my 2018 15" MBP and 2017 10.5" iPad Pro and wait for the end of 2020 to upgrade.

I'm confused, are the rumors pointing to a MBP 13' update first half then another mini LED update end of year?

I finally upgraded from my mid 2009 15-inch MBP to a 16-inch MBP and couldn't be happier. I always wanted a 17-inch and was sad when they discontinued it.

I was about to pull the trigger in 2012, but I upgraded my machine's RAM and put in an SSD instead. After changing the battery multiple times and the machine being limited to specific MacOS, I was going to upgrade in 2016 but the keyboard was just not my cup of tea and the touch bar with no escape key etc..

After Apple finally ditched the flat butterfly keyboard, added the mechanical escape key, and bumped up the screen size I just had to buy it. I am in heaven.

Only concern with these laptops is that they seem disposable which is insane for a $2,000 machine. I am planning to add AppleCare and just sell it after a year or so and keep upgrading for fear of something bad happening.

I think there were rumours of a budget iPhone with miniLED but the flagships for sure will adapt microLED, overcoming OLED's cons.

Apple often does march/april events so its not wishful thinking. Its just what Apple does and it was fairly regular. So I'm sure we might get something but what they release is the question here.
Maybe just RED iPhone Pro :)

It's ridiculous to ignore updating the screen on the 11" iPad Pro. I'll just hang onto my current model & skip the next updates until they release the new screen on it.

isnt OLED better for reading? (because you can get deep blacks on a per-pixel basis for small text) (and therefor better for the iPad Pro?)

isnt the main advantage of mini LED over OLED merely cost?
