Naming is hard. Pro Lite? Really? I'm hoping this is as ridiculously off base as it seems.

Two things:

1.) There won’t be any AirPods labeled ‘lite’, that’s genuinely what makes this ‘rumor’ substantially bogus.

2.) It’s rumors like these degrade DigiTimes credibility even more. Apples marketing has generally always been very good, but the term ‘lite’ isn’t very Apple-like at all.

Title should read "DigiTimes Continues to Suggest New Version of AirPods Pro Is Forthcoming."
Yes, I think they are confused as there is more than one Airpod in the box - AirPods Pro, so they used the plural "are", rather than the singular as you correctly say "is", as it is a singular set (of two). New Airpods are on the way, would mean more than one new version. Still with rising language deconstruction, anything goes these days.

I'm not sure how someone can write a piece like this without all the facts from the DigiTimes story and then slam DigiTimes for being less than reliable.

Welp we all know what feature will be missing.....ANC lol

And that’s Somehow worth mentioning? Would you expect Apple to put the latest technology into a lower-priced AirPod? That would be a poor business practice, because if included all the same technology in the entry level versus the ‘Pro’ level, then it would be directly competing with each other. I don’t think anyone expecting to purchase the “lite” version would be expecting active noise cancellation.

Wonder if Apple has been sending out firmwares to current Pro users and seeing if they can make the noise reduction go away...testing in production.

If there was any recent firmware updates, it would be posted on here in terms of the release/patch number of the update, and there hasn’t been any.

Since lots of people don't like the tap control of the AirPods....

WHERE'd you get that idea?!? AirPod Tap Controls were/are the singular killer feature of the AirPods and the singular deal breaking never buying feature lost on the AirPod Pros!

Have you ever tried changing songs (on the Pros) with a Hat On? Or a hoodie? A helmet? Gloves? Mittens? With a Coffee Mug in your hands....all the above? With AirPods 1&2 you could literally bump yourself in the side of the head with ALL the above going on while one handed on a bike, a chairlift, snowboarding, talking to the barista etc ALL without having to wait on (nor talk to) Siri!

TAP CONTROLS ARE the singular best feature of the AirPods and I desperately hope Apple doesn't kill them off on the next version.

I think he’s having a dig at how the last two firmware updates for the Pros borked ANC and Apple still haven’t fixed or even acknowledged it.

I really don't know whether the Bluetooth ear-pods is a good idea or not. I have 1st gen AirPod and it's really good, but it also has signs of battery degrading. I know that Apple has programs to replace it but unlike smartphones, it's not possible to "repair" the battery of old AirPods and the standard code for Apple is still "dump old ones". I can't imagine how many electronic rubbish we're producing every year.

I'm considering to buy a 3.5mm Bluetooth transceiver instead.

Ugh, I'd hate that if it was to be the case.

I think its nice now having the option between AirPods which sit in your ear and the AirPods Pro which actually are in ear and provide a seal when worn.

If the sealed in-ear design is the only option going forward (with the Pro version having ANC or other additional features) that would really suck.

No matter how much I like the ease of use, quality, and convenience of AirPods, I would not purchase an updated version if sealed in ear were the only option. Sealed in ear is not for everybody so I sure do hope they continue making the standard in ear and they don't lag too far behind in features.

Most definitely, I meant the last couple of firmwares, people have been complaining that the noise cancellation has gotten worse.

I’d like to see them assigned an Apple ID to render them useless in case of theft. Or gps built in for better tracking. My daughter is bad about losing them. All I can do is make her wait and learn to keep better track. Back to earbuds.

They won't remove/completely alter the base line airpods pro. That product literally created the niche they built. They may add a slightly cheaper Pro style (silicon tips) earbud, but it won't interfere with regular airpods. It'll be more of a pick your preference type thing, they'll probably have similar features.
