Apple is likely to defer the launch of new AirPods Pro to the second half of 2020 or some point in 2021, according to supply chain sources cited by Taiwanese publication DigiTimes.

A paywalled preview of the report:
Apple likely to defer new AirPods Pro launch
Apple is likely to defer the launch of its new AirPods Pro to the second half of 2020 or even 2021, according to sources at related suppliers.
Last month, DigiTimes had reported that Apple's suppliers would kick off production of a new entry-level version of AirPods Pro between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second quarter, but it would not be surprising if that timeframe has changed due to the impact of the global health crisis.

Earlier this month, leaker Jon Prosser claimed that Apple was planning to release so-called "AirPods X" around September or October with a BeatsX-like design for sports and running. Prosser said those "AirPods X" are likely the same product as the entry-level AirPods Pro that DigiTimes has been referring to.

"AirPods X" were first rumored by the seemingly prescient Twitter user "l0vetodream" in early March, but details remain slim.

Prosser more recently said that Apple has new AirPods ready to launch, possibly alongside a 13-inch MacBook Pro refresh next month, suggesting that a third generation of the standard AirPods could also be on the horizon.

These won’t be the pros.
True (probably a cheaper design, removed a feature or something) but it still doesn't matter. It is inexcusable for Apple to be releasing any sort of airpods without fixing the MAJOR issues of the current ones. Firmware ruined the Pros with no way to downgrade and no update for months. I went back to Gen 2's because the Pros have so many issues. Will not buy another pair until they fix the Pros.

I went back to the air pods 2 as well. for me was more far more comfortable fit. I use my air pods all day when working at home and they are so much better over a long period of time compared to the pros which I got for ANC but this was for the gym so this is all i would use them for...if we could go to the gym of course.

I’ve had zero issues with mine except for the most important one: they keep falling out of my ears ... all 3 sizes. Very frustrating.

A refresh already makes no sense.

I'm not as happy with my APPs either but going back to gen2 - really?

If you want AirPods Pro without noise canceling so badly, just buy the normal AirPods for 129 and a set of ear tips from Amazon for 5 bucks. Why pay 200 for what's basically the same exact thing?

Had to, phone calls were painful! The clicks and pops that occur when talking due to the microphone short circuiting was something I just could not take. And the rattles when listening to music, no way! It was like someone putting their fist right in my ear drum.. it hurt! Ended up getting refunded in full by Apple after proving to their in store associates that the firmware is causing issues. Not a chance I buy another airpod pro model until I see a brand new firmware release. Then I'll wait for some reviews before diving in again.

Not a credible rumor at all in terms of launching this year. The AirPod Pros are not a product that would be upgraded on an annual basis, I’d say probably every 18 months or later we would see a refresh. The Pros are an accessory to the iPhone, it’s not a core product like the Apple Watch/iPhone that would be updated annually.

shocker, more frequent releases of over priced ear buds than Macs. All of apples little crap products get more attention than the computer that began it all.
