Yep, that's it. I said I had an existing pla, logged it, unlimited plan was my option already selected, and agreed to terms. It commu incanted with the network for a couple minutes and then I got a message saying it was active. Screen now says LTE.

TOUCHDOWN!

Excellent news.

BJ

I can login just fine, sounds like a network issue.

Must be.. Oh well.. I called the 1-800 number and transfered it over just fine within 5mins. On a side note- my town doesn't have AT&T LTE, but I'm averaging between 8-9Mbps DL and 2-3Mbps UL on HSPA+. Plenty fast for now for me! Now, if they can just add the HotSpot feature!

I just got my new iPad and this is what i did as am on an unlimited plan too,
just went to setting , data and entered my email and password for the at&t unlimited data plan, it took me to another page where it asked if I wanted to keep my unlimited plan or change, selected my plan and pressed next, it automatically updated the account and sent me a text saying it had been updated.
I logged in from the iPad again to check my account and is now showing unlimited data. So its fairly basic.

Yeah, I tried that too but after I logged in with my email account and PW it took me to the screen showing the data plan options and had a check next to the "DOM" unlimited plan that I have etc and when I tapped on it to further the screen nothing happened.. oh well.. I switched it the old-fashioned way, but interesting nonetheless that I couldn't do it right from the iPad.

What happens now, and what is shows on the old iPad? Is there a conflict if both units get powered on?

Did you have old powered on at the time? I bet that is the hiccup you had based on what I found before and could lock others out as well - so for those doing the email/pw approach should take that precaution. Editing first post info from BJ's details. Received our iPads as well, so going to try the old approach so we can confirm it still works.

Hmmm, I DID have the iPad 2 on... Good point!

I did the same, after powering down my original iPad. 30seconds later I got the confirmation popup.

What's odd is, I can log on to the account from both devices- in other words, I now have unlimited data on both the original and the new iPad. I wonder how long that will last. Would think AT&T will kill off the old sim in the next few hours...

Well, when you get to that page, all you have to do is turn the keyboard off and scroll down and the next button will be visible, I had the same issue too where i just saw that option and wondered how I do next but than realized had to scroll down to see next and it worked.

I'm wanting to swap the AT&T sim into my Verizon iPad are the instructions pretty much the same?? I want to do this because of the hspa+ until Verizon had lte here in a few months.

Allegedly they are different sims, however I've heard reports that some of the newest production iPad 2's have the updated SIM. Try swapping them and see what happens!

Oh this is from an iPad 1 so I'm guessing no luck transferring this over??

Works Flawlessly and Simply

Well - I'm shocked. AT&T made this dead simple. When you go to setup your data plan, you indicate you are an existing user. Then you sign in, and it defaults to allowing you to select unlimited data for $29.99. You hit next, and it tells you it will take a few minutes to update. 3 minutes later, it tells you its complete and it works!!

I never thought i'd utter the words - AT&T got it right!

Isn't working for me at the moment... I tried it last week from the same computer and network connection and it worked fine. I get an "SSL connection error."

I had the same problem using Chrome browser. Tried on IE and had no problems switching my unlimited plan over to the new iPad! LTE isnt live in my hometown yet so I get the 4G icon which must mean I'm getting HSPA+?

I know right! I kept stressing about getting my unlimited plan switched over but was pleasantly surprised when i saw the option to activate unlimited data on new iPad during set up. I did have to power off my new iPad and turn it back. Good Job AT&T and Apple!

this is valid only if you have a active unlimited plan correct ?

Yes. Those of us who bought iPad 1's in the first couple of weeks have been grandfathered in with our existing Unlimited Data Plans. It's no longer available for new customers, was discontinued in June of '10.

Setting up the new iPad with AT&T could not have been simpler.

It asked if I was an existing iPad customer, I said yes, logged in with my ID and password, confirmed my current plan, and voila! Done.

No SIM swap, nothing. I went to the ipadlanding page and confirmed the IMEI was automatically updated to that of the new Ipad.

Easy as pie. Lemon Supreme pie actually. From Village Inn....

What I want to find out if the plan got transferred or was it cloned - i.e. will the first iPad stop receiving data or will they now both receive data and come next month you will be charged for two data plans unless you somehow cancel one of the plans.

I ask this only because I would not mind keeping both iPads and have them both on unlimited data at $29.95 each.

I'd still try it and see what happens- you never know!
Either way 1-800-331-0500 is AT&Ts # so you can fall back on that.

It works!!! I have changed to info on atts site yet guess I should do that? All I did is swap the sim.
