Hate to break the news to you but DTV is going to to get the renewal. DTV's business depends on it, and so does its merger w/ ATT. But even if DTV were to lose the deal it's not going to be less expensive w/ a different provider.

----------

Hate to break it to you, but if the NFL is going to offer this thru other providers(ie the internet) then I can get rid of cable, which is $1200 a year, at least. And yes, that does mean that Directv wouldn't have exclusive rights to the service. I am sure they will still offer it as part of their overwhelmingly expensive and ridiculous packages, as will other cable companies, but this allows penny-pinching poor sports fanatics(such as myself) to avoid this useless bill. Read my previous posts.

You got proof of this because last reports I read are that the NFL is still negotiating exclusively with DirecTV. Now that the DTV/ATT merger hinges on DTV retaining exclusive rights to ST, with DTV to pay a huge penalty to ATT if ATT walks away you can bet your last dollar DTV is going to toss every $ they can muster at keeping ST exclusive.

If DTV doesn't retain Sunday Ticket they are probably in serious trouble. I don't see any real reason to be with DTV over Comcast without The Ticket. Channel lineup is as good or better with Comcast. The bundles of Internet/TV/Phone can't be beat and DTV can't compete with Comcast's cable internet. Period.

I've had DTV since 1998 for one reason only and that is to get Sunday Ticket. Without it I'm probably moving over to Comcast. Pretty simple stuff and I think there are maybe millions of football fans with the same mindset.

I apologize that I haven't read this entire thread. But a few questions:

1) Is there a phone number to NFLDirect where I can ask them my questions? I don't see one on the website.

2) Am I correct that in order to stream to my TV, I need a game console? They don't have an app for Samsung TV? So I have to use my PS3?

3) Am I correct as of now the iPhone/iPad App does not support Airplay? I can't stream from my iDevice through Apple tv?

4) Does anyone know whether I could do mirroring on my Macbook Pro through the ATV?

5) If I buy a package that allows me to stream to my tv through a PS3, can I take the PS3 to a different location and still use it -- even if NFLDirect is not available in that location?

thanks.

To answer my own questions.

1) Telephone number: 855-229-8114

2) One person I spoke with said the games would stream to a tv through a Tivo, Genie, or similar device. Another person said that to watch on a tv, you need a PS3, PS4 or XBox 1.

3) I was told that they have now blocked all forms of Airplay/Mirroring. If you only order the "digital" subscription, you can't mirror your Mac computer to the tv.

4) They said that the account is IP specific, so if you move your console to a new address, it probably wont stream.

I wonder if a jb tweak on iOS can allow airplay

Do this for the World Cup and Euro Cup, please. Except whatever they do, it probably won't be worth it unless they perceive a serious risk of people dropping cable.

If only you could torrent live games.

if only yeah, but on the upside the commercials are cut out and the image quality is second to none. :)

Same here. It's terrible for their business model, because I was ready to spend $199 on their plan. But now I can't give them my money... so their loss.

It's always their loss unless someone buys a a DirecTV satellite package. NFL Sunday Ticket is a big loss leader for DirecTV (currently costs them 1 billion dollars a year and generates around $500 million in revenue). Offering the streaming option in non-DirecTV areas widens their potential customer base where as offering it in areas with DirecTV service could cannibalize their service (people canceling DirecTV service and then signing up for the streaming option).

Still illegal.....

Stil awesome though. If DTV and cable companies would simply allow ala carte channel selections then those of that did cut the cord years ago would consider coming back. However, when something is an incredible rip off, it's hardly a crime to circumvent the usual avenues taken to receive said thing.

Even so,as I said earlier, the NFL is becoming less entertaining with the horrible changes to the game and obnoxious coverage. Whatever.

Ala Carte channels would be the worst thing to happen to choice. Bundling is what is keeping all the other channels so cheap - without it, they wouldn't be able to stick around and you'd be stuck with a dozen stupid sports channels and some movie channels and then the big broadcast networks.

This is pretty much useless, considering almost everyone is going to be uneligible.

They still have an "exclusive" deal with Direct TV. I don't know whether the NFL is stuck with that or Direct TV pays the NFL enough that NFL is happy. The purpose of these non-Direct TV plans are to satisfy markets in larger cities, such as Manhattan, where it's almost impossible to put up a satellite dish. I'm guessing that Direct TV agreed because it's not losing much revenue in these zip codes. Also, as with MLB.com, the home games are blacked out. So, if you don't pay for cable tv, you'll still have to go to a bar to watch the home teams.

I haven't checked, but somehow I don't think there is a "but I think the price is too high so I just took it" defense in the legal system.

This is the last year of the deal and the NFL and DirecTV are in negotiations to extend it. DirecTV currently pays the NFL $1 billion a season for the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket (and that price is only going up).

I was eligible, but not enough of a fan to pay $199.99 just to watch on my computer/tablet. Whew.

A 'Follow Your Team' option could be cool.

I just re-upped with DTV for $192 for the whole Sunday Ticket Max, which includes all games, RedZone and Mobile (phone/tablet access).

Seems like a rip to only get the mobile part for $200.

Here's a pro-tip: Get a web proxy in Europe and buy the package that NFL sells outside the U.S. It is cheaper and works great. As a plus, you're sticking it to the d-bags at DTV.

This is pretty much what do every year. I check which country has the cheapest sub and then I roll with that. Plus you get NFL Network and Sunday ticket. Phenomenal deal.

Plus I just checked and even though I'm in the metro NY area it's not available for me. Shame I would have gotten this instead, maybe.

Can you let me know how to exactly do that? I'm so confused and I tried googling it got me nowhere
