Hitting 7 days since the car's @ the shop. AirTag on key fob.
Thinking he might need it for another week - 10 days.

Not sure how long - separated from owner does the AirTag start beeping.
I recall reading Was reading around 5-7 days before the AirTag starts beeping.

Just short of removing the AirTag off my account, is there a way to just -silcence beeping-

There's no way to silence the beeping from your end. That would just make all the anti-stalking features pointless.

I'm not entirely sure if removing the AirTag from your account would stop the beeping either, since it wouldn't be near your phone to be fully deactivated/reset. If the AirTag is outside of Bluetooth range when it's removed from your account, it would just be an "orphaned" tag that's unaware it has been deactivated until the battery is removed five times to reset it. It starts beeping between 8 to 24 hours after it has been separated from its owner (link), so it's likely been beeping for quite awhile already. If the beeping becomes problematic at the shop, you could just tell them to take the battery out.

😳 Off to google how frequent the beeping is...

Did not realized removing = needed to be close/BT connected. I presume it talked OTA, similar to how all these things phone home via FindMy

I wouldn't worry about it until they say something lol -- then you will know if they took your car for a joyride

In googling it ...it says it beeps when moved and at random intervals. Me wonders how loud, how long, how often.
I'm sure things get shuffled around in the shop@times. Eh, who knows. Maybe the battery will drain faster and die out before the extra 7-10 days@shop

If I’m going on vacation will the AirTags I leave at home keep beeping off when I’m not there ?

If you set Home as a place where you can leave keys (notify except) then it should not:
“Notify Hen Left Behind” -> ON -> “Notify Me, Except At”

AirTags only have Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband radios - no data connection to remove them from your iCloud remotely - so, as stated above, the AirTag would be in an undesirable "orphaned" state...still going to chime off, in all likelihood.

Apple's gotten more aggressive with their notifications - took my dog for a walk with the wife's keys in my pocket and got a notification of an unknown AirTag tracking me when I came back. That was only about 30 minutes.

I'd either tell your mechanic about it, or go back and ask to remove something from your keychain as you need it - and remove the AirTag fob.
