Is it possible to prevent the iphone from adding everything to multitasking and use backgrounder instead?

Use the 'Backgrounder' option in Global settings in backgrounder. It'll override the native backgrounding. It'll still put in the fast app switcher though.

If you only want things that are actually doing something in the background to stay in the fast app bar install "Remove recents" from Cydia. Don't need backgrounder.

When I download "remove recents", it says it is complete but there is no icon for it. If there is not supposed to be an icon for it (ie. if it runs in the background) then it simply isn't working for me (iPhone 4).

Oh well, I rebooted my phone and now it's hung at the black screen with the Apple. Other than Cydia only "remove recents" has been installed.
