Ok, so I just got my new iphone 3gs 16gb a few days ago. I really like it, and am especially happy with its snappyness and responsiveness compared to my old 8gb 1stgen ipod touch.

there is, however, one massive problem. Multitasking!

whenever I open an app, then hit the "menu" button, I thought it CLOSED the app, but when I access "processes" in sbsettings, it shows every app that I have run! Why would I possibly want all these apps to STAY running? that just kills my battery life!

So my question is this: is there a way to make apps AUTOMATICALLY close when I close them, or do i now have to close them in sbsettings EVERY TIME I exit an app in order to save battery life?

And wth is this *****? Is this apples "multitasking"? just running EVERY app in the background forever until you reboot or close it with a task manager? shouldnt there be an OPTION to background or NOT background an app? I'm really blown away by the stupidity of this system...

Also I would long press the home button but now I have a 3gs so that just brings up voice commands...

A quick Google search of iPhone multitasking would have explained how it works. It doesn't use any battery at all. The app states are saved to RAM. They're not running. Unless it's a navigation app or music playing app. Google is your friend.

dl removerecents, edit many settings for individual apps in backgrounder and that gives the best possible backgrounder/multitasking interface in ios4 at the moment. when a better app switching program comes out, you can disable multitasking altogether, but right now its needed.
