I have unfortunately dropped my macbook pro a couple times and now the cd drive does not work. I don't mind not having a cd drive as i rarely used it anyways; however, it is constantly spinning and making strange noises, especially on startup or when waking up from standby. I am pretty sure it even delays my startup and will sometimes cause the computer to freeze when trying to wake up. Is there any way I can completely disable it so the computer never checks if it is there? Thanks in advance.

That will work on a macbook and I bet it would work on your macbook pro also.

Open it up and disconnect the drive cable from the back of the drive and the logicboard - the MBP will start up fine without any funny noises....
