Both the dirt cheap and ram are also soldered on.
so you can't add your own ram?
Both the dirt cheap and ram are also soldered on.
But the iPads retina display didn't bring up the cost that much.
Do me a favor; go in the apple store, select the 2.3Ghz non retina. Select 8GB ram and 256GB SSD, then tell me how much the retina display added on the new MBP price compared to the result.
$3749 for the 15" 2.7 GHz, 16 GB RAM, and 768 GB SSD Retina display.

really a couple hundred?
it was $200 to upgrade RAM from 4GB to 8GB
Really? Where'd ya buy it from?
If Apple wants to be more competitive in the computer world, these prices are never going to cut it. You can get like 4 fully loaded PC laptops with all the bells and whistles like Blu Ray drives, which you can't even get on the new MBP, for the price of the LEAST expensive one. Then $2800 for what is essentially a 15 inch netbook with retina, are you serious? What a joke.

No. Don't forget ,Apple dominates the $ > 1000 set. So what if all their boxes are over 1000? If they were uncompetitive none of them would sell.
Oh guess what amazon has the 13 inch mbp listed as the TOP SELLING laptop. right now.
4 top rated laptops? Macbook Pro, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Macbook Air.
Looks like they aren't having problems moving kit.

Big deal. If you think people are going to shell out $3k or even $2500 for a stripped down 15 inch laptop just because its a "retina" display, thats funny.
I think the US prices are not that bad.
But suddenly you pay more in Euro's than in Dollars.
In the past it has always been a bit less Euro's than dollars, or in the worst case the same.
For example the new MacBook Pro (in the Belgian store):
Base model: $2199 vs 2299 (equivalent to $2871)
High end model: $2799 vs 2929 (euivalent to $3658)
Anyone here an idea why their computers would be so much more expensive in Europe than in the US. Has always been te case, but this time it's just ridiulous. About 1/4 more if I would buy them here.
Is this to drive the US economy and make people buy them in the states?

Yeh its true its ridiculous! Why would European people need to pay more for the exact same thing? :/
Thats the reason why i'm suddently not sure anymore to buy that great machine :/
Having the exact same doubts here!
Even if I would buy it through the company and be able to deduct the taxes, it would still be cheaper to buy it in the US![]()
15" netbook with a retina?!
Please show me a netbook with quad-core processor.
I thought maybe another hundred bucks or two from the base model 15" which is 1700.

It doesn't even have a Blu Ray drive, ethernet or firewire ports. People like me will start looking more seriously at Windows laptops with all the features we want and/or need and save a couple grand in the process.
