Considering it was some five months between announcement and deployment, yes some of us were expecting a native tvOS app and not a re-skin of the app used on Smart TVs and Blu-ray/DVD players.

You should know better that this wasn’t going to happen. All of the three major streaming services provide the same app and experience as if you downloaded the app on another device.

Exactely my problem, too. (On a Samsung UHD TV)

I watched two movies over the last weekend and the pq and sound were great.
Depends on the title. A movie more recent may be ok. But overall, I end up using my fire tv more instead. You can tell the difference on my fire tv. And the Apple app.

I also end up pulling the movie from another service. Cause it plays so much better on Hulu or Netflix.

For some reason Prime app is not syncing with the TV app / Up Next.

I started watching a series via Prime by finding it in the TV app. It’s not appearing in Up Next. Any ideas?

Is it possible to rent movies through the ATV? Or do you have to rent them through the website or iOS app in order to access them on the ATV?

Suddenly all I seem to have is Prime content, and no options to rent or purchase anything else?

The streaming quality still hasn’t improved. But as of late. I have not really found much to watch on Amazon anyhow.

You need one of these

Why. Well my setup.
  • Input 1: Roku plays YouTube in 4K HDR. Amazon is bad and Hulu is slow. NF plays the same. Funimation is slow and has horrible PQ. Boomerang app is slow. Hallmark app is dated and ugly. Vudu app plays in 4K.
  • Input 2: Amazon app can be reliable most of the time but it was abysmal yesterday. ATV plays Netflix and Hulu great but the YouTube app is bad. ATV also keeps me logged into HBOGo and Starz and plays great. ATV plays Hallmark Movies app with proper audio and video quality. Funimation is the most reliable. Boomerang is fast and works great. Vudu app is terrible no 4K many titles I have play in SD.
  • Input 3: Retropie on the RasperryPie because my TV won't display a picture if hooked up directly.
  • Input 4: PS4 just for playing games or disks.
  • Input 5: Fire TV (2017) dongle. Plays Amazon content great. No YouTube app and abysmal Firefox, Silk performance. HBOGo and Starz log me out weekly so I don't use them anymore. Halmark Movies app plays video fine but audio sounds worse than AM radio. Boomerang is also fast and runs great on here too. Funimation plays better on here too it is faster.
So you can see I need 4 streaming devices to be able to enjoy all the apps. One device does not play a certain app as good as other devices.
