In addition to Uber and Starbucks since they used images for those apps to promote Live Activities, I’m surprised that no airlines apps or TripIt uses it yet (I don’t want to pay for a Flighty subscription) or ESPN for sports (Apple TV only works for some and Sports Alerts is OK but I don’t otherwise like the app) or food delivery apps. I hope it doesn’t get ignored like the Touch Bar because it can be a legitimately useful feature

I think it's lack of development means lower engagement with the app istelf. It's a great USER friendly feature but the more you use an app, regardless of whatever app it is, the more data gets collected. For example, Jimmy Johns should have been one of the first to develop for it but it looks like they are last to the party and I'm sure its because they dont want to shell out the money to develop it and/or they would rather have people constantly checking the app to see where their order is. Same for ESPN. Why develop a user friendly feature when you can just force users to keep the app open and keep them glued to it.

It's disappointing from a user stand point but from a business perspective, it's a perverted way to keep eyes on the screen without having to jump through Apple's hoops.

I’m disappointed as well, but not surprised, these large corps don’t seem to care at all about things like this unless it could somehow generate more revenue for them.

On the plus side the Nike app just got live activities this week and it looks and works well.

Unfortunately the same reason Instagram probably does not have a widget to display the latest post yet. They want you to open and engage with the app
Flip side of that is that i have actually downloaded and started using on a regular basis some apps that do use Live Activities over others that dont.

It’s really a shame that not more apps are utilizing Live Activities. I’d love for DoorDash and Uber Eats to utilize it, especially since I use both apps for food delivery on the weekend — it would be great to not have to check the app to see the progress, but rather just look on the Lock Screen of my phone. But hopefully it’s something the app developers will slowly, but surely embrace and update their apps accordingly.

That said, I do use Live Activities frequently for sports scores and it works great.

Another flip side, is in a world of greater reliance on App Library / Spotlight to find apps vs multiple Home Screen pages, Live Activities could be seen as a way to provide even more app visibility and potential for interaction given it literally keeps apps front and center both when phone is being used (in Dynamic Island in that case) and when not (via the Lock Screen)

Finally got a chance to use Uber since the addition of Live Activities. While it’s great they added, they did almost the least possible:

- The Dynamic Island implementation is useless (just shows ‘Uber’ on one side and a car on the other), should at least show ETA or how much time until destination
- The Lock Screen implementation is a bit better, showing ETA, but should also show time to destination

Screenshots would be nice so we can see what you’re seeing.

For us MLB fans on here, the MLB app was updated yesterday and they very quietly activated their Live Activities function within the app.

Looks like 'Sports Alerts' shows more info about the game but I think MLB's live activities might be quicker to update and will be more accurate

I can’t seem to find that. Is this only available for iPhone 14? My app is updated but still getting the old notifications.

I can’t find it in the local App Store, would you be so kind as to provide a link?

Sure

Thank you, is that the drivers pic waving to you in the island? Good thing I’m not an Uber driver I’d be scaring everybody away if they saw my face staring at them from their dynamic island!😂

The lock screen widget is a little bland, maybe they can add a little map to it in the future, I know it’s possible to add animations to it.

I’m not sure I even understand the feature. Aren’t live activities at the bottom with the notifications? Doesn’t that get a little busy?
