I assume they must be using some different plastic compared to my old 2016 Pro. I've had this M1 Air since new from August last year and already some of the keys are developing a shine, and there's a big shiny spot on the spacebar where I hit it with my right thumb. My old Pro went 6 years of heavy typing and the keycaps look basically as good as new. Looking to upgrade to a used 14" Pro and those seem to suffer from shiny keys too. Makes the laptop look a bit beat up.
 
It’s the plastic or whatever they use, it’s all Apple keyboards. Either get white keys or try not to think about it ha.
