I've heard the most disappointing was the iWork suite. A lot of hype but it still has a lot to improve on.

Are you seriously expecting magazines through Zinio to be free???
Yes Zinio's content need purchasing but it's very cheap to subscribe your magazine through Zinio as opposed to purchasing $4.99 per issues (eg: Times Magazine app)

I've been reading The Economist on Zinio and it's been great. $126.99 for 52 issues (~$2.50) is much better than paying $6.99 per issues

Agree its a great app, the $5.00 maxim one year sub was a steal

Damn, I almost bought it the other day. I need to read up on this a bit more.

I use iTeleport every day. Incredibly useful for controlling my Mac mini HTPC and for fiddling with settings and programs on my laptop without having to get up and go over to the other room. Also use it to screen share to my mom's computer to help her when she needs some tech support (and I can be anywhere as long as we're both online).

It's expensive but if you do any of the things above it's totally worth it.

I agree. I have it running on my Mac Mini HTPC as well. During my lunch break I start a download using iTeleport so that it's ready to watch when I get home.

Pages for me as well. I expected it to at least have more functionality than TextEdit on the Mac, but apparently not.

I think the biggest disappointment so far is what I haven't bought just because I put the brakes on my app spending after seeing the iPad prices. I wrote a rant about it here which more or less sums it up.

Weather HD is worth the $0.99 because it is mostly eye candy. It is getting more useful with each update, but really it is also great way to show your iPad to friends.

iTeleport is one of the best performing 'screen sharing' apps out there. The other I use regularly is the LogMeIn app.

iTeleport is fully functional and lets you access a remote computer desktop. The issue I think many people may have is with configuring it to access your desktop from 'anywhere' on the internet.

Read and follow their instructions, or look online for help. If you don't see the value in accessing your computer or dozens from your iPad, then you won't like this app.

As an IT admin these two apps are outstanding for what they do. The general consensus on this thread seems to be...
- i wasted my money looking at the hype of an app before seeing what it does for me (see plant's vs. zombies, iTeleport)
- its not functioning as expected/hyped (as in the iWork suite)
- poorly written or functioning app (as it appears to be with Zinio which I have not tried).

My least favorite purchase has more been in the pricing/upgrade. I use and like AirSharing, but I bought the initial version then the Pro and now the iPad requires me to pay out another $10. Apple needs to have an option for 'upgrades' rather than making a developer update their apps for free or charging their full-price for an app. I decided to pay $0.99 for GoodReader rather than pay for another 'upgrade'.

Angry Birds HD. Avoid this like the plague. It costs 5x as much as the iPhone version for, wait for it, exactly the same levels, but less of them! It's glitchy, slow and crashes far too often. Absolutely horrendous. I've three times asked for a refund, but have not received a response. I'm so disappointed with it, I've been put off playing the iPhone version again.

I needed a PDF reader and so I tried GoodReader first because it was cheap. I got what I paid for. Technically, it works and has all of the features I need, but the user interface is just incredibly awkward. I ditched it and went with ReaddleDocs instead. (ReaddleDocs isn't great either, but it has a better UI that GoodReader.)

Thats why I'm glad for jailbreak and cracked apps. I'm all for buying good apps, but we need a better policy then find out if you like after you buy.

Feedback doesn't always help. I've liked apps that others disliked just about as much as I liked apps others didn't.

My list so far of disappointing purchases.

Magic Piano
iELECTRIBE

Are you just buying music apps at random? Most people I know love iElectribe. Then again, they also knew what an Electribe was back in 2001 when they cost $400 a box.

My list:

Pages - Has the functionality of Wordpad

Paperdesk - notetaking/drawing app with a fancy background and annoying input latency

Evernote - a notetaking app that's nothing more than an email window

Early Edition - Takes all your RSS Feeds and makes them more presentable, but harder to go through. Archives everything daily (making them disappear) and the little scroll bar at the bottom is crap
