I have a 2018 Macbook pro and have tried using the Apple Super Drive to upload CD's/watch DVD's. It doesn't work and I'm looking to buy a new one that works. Any recommendations? Thank you.

I reckon just about any 3rd-party external DVD/CD drive will do the job.

I prefer "tray loaders" and "open top loaders" to "slot" loaders.
EDIT: Looks like the posters below have done well with Pioneer drives...

I’ve been using this same Pioneer drive above for years now. Great drive, quiet and has been reliable for me.

I have the $30 LG Electronics 8X USB 2.0 Super Multi Ultra Slim Portable DVD+/-RW External running on my 2018 Mac Mini. It works under Mojave and Catalina but you have to be careful when opening the tray and inserting disks because it's not heavy-duty.

Your Super Drive should work with the right adapter. Don't use a third party hub. Are you using an Apple Thunderbolt to USB adapter?

Also, try an SMC reset.

Yes, I'm using an apple adapter... Really doesn't work. Barely recognizes the computer and can never upload music..

The drive is operational in macOS 10.15 and on my hardware, which I wouldn't believe is anything special from yours or others. Of course, I sold mine not long ago since I wanted a BDR drive. So, it's either a single or combination of your combined connection of hardware or it was a problem with your OS installation.
