"Disc Utility has lost its connection with the disc management tool"

Help!

I keep trying to erase and reformat my iPod, but every time I try I get the

"Disc Utility has lost its connection with the disc management tool. Please quite and try again" message.

Keep doing that, and again, displays the same message.

What do I need to do to get it working properly?

try to format it/restore it with iTunes first, then go again. maybe that will work??

no i dont think it reformats it, simply erases EVERYTHING(including songs, calendars etc) and reinstalls it again.

Well considering I need to reformat it as I'm installing Leopard it's something I need to do!

huh? your installing leopard on your ipod??

restore the ipod through itunes, then try reformat it in disk utility.. it might work you never know.

I stupidly lost my disc but have a backup, so putting it onto my iPod and then booting it up and installing.

I've tried that and I need to partition it, but I keep getting the disk management tool error!

im running out of options, ill have a think for a bit. hopefully somebody else can help haha.

From trying to research it was something to do with iTunes so I completely trashed that to no avail.

I really don't know what's wrong with it, it's doing my head in and I want Leopard!
