on my duo iMac I was connecting a new peripheral so I had to randomly choose a usb port to disconnect. well I guess I chose wrong, and picked my keyboard.

so I was like no big deal its usb and just plugged it back in. and I got nothing. I ended up having to do a hard shutdown.

is this a common problem? its not my first time this has happened.

Nah, it should've been fine and reconnected. What sort of keyboard is it? Could the other device have crashed the Mac before the keyboard had a chance to reconnect? :)

Its just the apple issued usb keyboard. The only thing different I'm using a USB cable extender because the keyboard's little stub doesn't cut it for my desk.

It's OSX security ... it's illegal to just 'disconnect' without notifying
the Frameworks controller protocols to unmount the device.
Just do a restart .. and everything should be good as new.
