I was using a Linksys router (model # RT31P2) for my Vonage phone service. I recently cancelled this service, but when I disconnected the router, and just had the cable modem going directly into the computer, I wasn't able to access the internet anymore. What do I need to do to fix this problem? I've already tried rebooting both the modem and the mac, to no avail.

Your ISP might be tying your cable modem to the unique MAC address of your router's ethernet port.

If restarting the modem didn't work when I suggest calling your ISP.

There's nothing against continuing the use of your router either.
