Discontinue because it was outsold by iPhone 5S?

Here is the shocker for you, I guess if you have a little common sense, you will not start this stupid thread :p. iPhone 5C is the second or third best selling smartphone in the US major carriers and retailers. I am pretty sure, millions are sold already. It would be shocking if it will eventually outsell iPhone 5 for the same 1 year they are out in the consumer market (September 2014) considering iPhone 5S is the flagship phone.

Most hardware smartphone makers will gladly take the sales of iPhone 5C.

A remake of last year's being talked about to death and in the headlines much more than the flagship of many smartphone makers by which they spent millions $$$ marketing them. I guess, it is very easy to identify the people seething with jealousy. :D And of course, iPhone 5C is still trailing the main headliner and hottest gadget nowadays, iPhone 5S. Christmas time, iPhone 5C will give iPhone 5S a run for the top money.

I'm now starting to realize there's people on this forum with common and business sense.. THANK GOD. I was really getting worried

The 5C was never going to sell well at the price Apple wants for it.

It's selling very well for the price Apple wants for it. It's selling better than the 4S did the same time last year, so going by that it's a success.

It was never meant to sell anywhere close to 5S numbers.

Well, an inventory mis-calculation of this size is a blunder, no doubt about it.

It's too early to judge the 5C, though. We're still in early-adopter territory since lots of people who ordered their 5Ses within the first week are still to receive their products.

Let's look at the situation again in 6 months.

And your proof that they miscalculated at all? Only apple know whether they did or didn't and they won't tell you.

Too many people practising kremlinology from reports that may or may not mean something.

If it were selling well Apple would not be pulling back production on the phone...

Do you have inside information that says production is being cut? Even if it is, it doesn't mean the phone isn't selling well. Maybe they produced an abundance for a surge in initial demand, and are now reducing production to a maintenance level.

What I'm afraid of is that when the iPhone 6s comes out, they will do the same thing and wipe out the iPhone 6 and replace it with the iPhone 6C. I just don't understand the logic at all, why the HELL would I want to pay $100 for a plastic iPhone when I could have gotten the standard iPhone 6 for the same price? The Color series is seriously one of the most idiotic things ever

I plan on switching to iOS in 2015 since I'll be bored of Android by then and my contract will be up, but I would be perfectly fine paying $100 for the iPhone 6 rather than $200 for the iPhone 6s.

You're making two bad assumptions here.

(1) You're assuming this is an unplanned scale back in production; maybe it is, maybe it isn't. It's not uncommon to produce a lot more of a new product to satisfy initial demand then scale back production once that initial excess demand is satisfied. This is product lifecycle planning 101 level stuff here.

(2) You're assuming that the scale back, if not previously planned, means "not selling well." Since it's selling better than nearly every other phone but the S4 and the 5s, clearly this assumption is false.

Did Apple overestimate demand for the 5c and underestimate demand for the 5s? Perhaps. It's very common for companies to adjust orders to match the actual market demand after a new product launch; happens all the time.

If you believe you can do a better job of predicting market demand of a new product mix, I suggest you send your resume to Tim Cook. You do have experience in product management and a suitable business education, right?

I assume this means you have a HTC One? Otherwise you would have a plastic phone. The truth is not everyone like the 5/5s design and I'm one of them. I'm a very big tech person, but have a 5c because of this. Yeah next year I'll upgrade to the iphone 6 as long as it is redesigned.

The truth is there is absolutely nothing wrong with iPhone. 5C. Well I'm OCD and I have issues keeping it clean because fingerprints show up awful. Other then that I am mighty content with this phone until September 2014

This is well put. However if you get a reply back they will only use links to useless rumors.

Yeah I have an HTC One.

Personally I just think the 5C is ugly, the colors are so kiddy looking and I don't like that glossy plastic look. I absolutely love the way the 5S looks though, just wish the screen was bigger.

I knew you did lol... Only because it's the only android I know of that's metal. I understand what your saying about the 5c... I however hot the white only because I had to have LTE and don't like the. 5/5s design

I find the negative vibes of people towards the 5C weird. It's a gorgeous product and I don't the need of a lot of 5s owners to try and put it down. Is it cold sharp metal delicate phone syndrome? ;)

so granted 5C has its pros. reconfirming the 5S dominance in the market. weak 5C sales brought strong 5S sales, so that means Apple is still commanding in premium market segment, and not for the cheap. Not too bad of a market to cater too. LOL.

anyways, is this the end for the "cheap" iPhone? would the 5C be one of those discontinued, rare iphones?

The 5C is not competing against the 5S its competing against other smart phones in its class and when compared to those phones its doing very well

I had an iPhone 4S and I didn't want a iPhone 5/5S because I'm not a fan of its design. That's why I got a 5c I liked the design and the color scheme, if you do not then that's on you. I'm missing nothing by having a 5c instead of a 5s. The 5c is different and I like it, that being said if the iPhone 6 is a huge improvement design wise I'll jump to it instead of a 6c.

I don't recall anyone wanting Apple to discontinue the iPhone 4 when the 4s was released, and the iPhone 4s when the iPhone 5 was released. Surely those old phones didn't sell as well as the current model then too.

Why is the iPhone 5c suddenly the exception to that?

This. Exactly. Is the reason why I got the 5c. I pretty much upgrade every year. I upgraded to the 5 last year and returned it because I despise the design. I stayed on my 4s and would have again had they not released the 5c. The 5s is more of the same from Apple with its tock upgrade. If the 6 isn't a great redesign Ill he hoping for a 6c or something...

5C Envy ... it is spreading

Because certain people are snobs and to them all plastic of any kind is inferior. Except when its plastic on Steve Jobs watch. Then plastic is just fine.

I love the 5c but not enough to settle for it. I would get it as a secondary phone tho. I love the best of the best iphone models
