Hey there, I was wondering if somebody could clarify this for me. When Apple announces new iPhones in September, how long after the announcement can we expect them start offering discounts on their older models (iPhone 8) on their website?

Prices are usually discounted either immediately after the event announcing the new phones (once their store is back up) or once the new models have been released for pre-sale. If my memory serves me right, the diccount usually happens immediately after the event. With that said, we have no idea which models they’ll end up keeping this year and which ones will be discontinued altogether. My guess is they’ll keep the 8/8+ and discontinue the X due to the new models

It’s possible the below happens for the old models:

They might just keep all the models (excluding X) or discontinue just the 6s and X series.

SE $349

6s $399 | 6s+ $499

7 $499 | 7+ $599

8 $599 | 8+ $699

6.1” $649-749 for base

5.8 $899

6.5 $999

The discount is reflected immediately after the keynote presentation.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus for example, both received a $100 discount last year.

IF they discontinue the X mind you they will have stock of it still elsewhere like Bestbuy so you can probably get a discounted one there. Also at Carrier stores as well. Right now Sprint is offering a X for $20 a month on the 18 month lease For new lines only though right now. I can see that becoming for everybody once the announcement comes or close to it.

I ma betting the 6.5 will be $1100.

Nobody except geeks are going to buy it then. Even for me as a lover of tech $1,100 is to much for a phone. Got the X now because essentially I get the phone on a major discount. $20 a month for 18 months then $250 to keep for a grand total of $610 vs $1,000.

They will keep the X vs keeping the 6s.

Actually I could very well see them knocking out the 6S and 7 and make the 8 at $499 and $599 and have the X as $699. This way all except the SE will have wireless charging and more parity among the lineup. Just my viewing of it and probably not likely.

Caydens post above was well descripted and is similar to what would I say. Any discounts on the current iPhone models in Apples lineup will be announced once they make their debut of the new iPhones and then they will show an array of all the iPhones with the reduced prices and which models are discontinued. As for the iPhone 8 being discounted, that should remain in Apples lineup and In all likeliness will drop somewhere around $100.00, carriers obviously should reflect that or have their own incentives with a discount.

Sorry. X ain’t gonna be $699.

And they won’t keep a new and old X both.

And 8 at $499 is wishful thinking.

Don’t expect more than a $100-150 discount on anything at all. And it maybe as low as $50.

Thanks folks! So, in terms of discount, how much are we talking about? $100? $150?

You might as well keep your X anyway for atleast a couple years.

If we are discussing Apple in terms of discounting iPhone, I would say traditionally it will be a $100. But carriers might vary, as they have promotions or trade in incentives. So you could potentially wait see what carrier might offer for a discount as well.

I read the same article as you and agree with those numbers.
