If you are very close to your upgrade date, i've heard that they might bump you up IF you all them a few times. I'm going to try that (upgrade available 2 months after the 5 is coming out)
Yes they are. T-Mobile offers Unlimited Data+unlimited text+500 minutes/mo for $65/mo if you bring your own phone whereas it would normally cost $90/mo, just like AT&T charges $90 for that with no unlimited data. Do your research.
If you look in a post later in the thread I say that tmobile is the only US carrier that has a value plan when you bring your own phone. Do a little more reading. Also lets do your math. $65 a month plus $649 for a iphone bought outright. That equals $1429 a year. Now pay $200 for the phone and then $90 a month. Thats $1280 a year. Which plan would you like???
The plan that gives me unlimited unthrottled data for less/mo. I'm paying the same price for the iPhone 5 on AT&T or T-Mobile, so that's inconsequential.
Why, if you went with at&t you could get the contract price and save the money. I don't know how much data you use but i have the unlimited data with at&t which will be throttled at 5GB with LTE. I know tmobile throttles my wifes line at 5GB so whats the difference.
I can't believe my eyes. Please do some research on TCO (total cost of ownership).
$649 + $30*12 = $1,009
$199 + $80*12 = $1,159
It gets even worse if you bring this out to the 20 month contract duration.
$649 + $30*20 = $1,249
$199 + $80*20 = $1,799
Of course, this is a very rudimentary TCO equation as it does not factor in taxes, fees, etc...
I even gave the benefit of the doubt assuming that you could feasibly get an $80 month plan on contract with one of these carriers.
You must also consider the risk involved with being on-contract. If you come into hard times, you have to pay an ETF of $250+ or your will ruin your credit. Prepaid does not have that risk. (even more value for pre-paid)
I'm not eligible for the contract price for the phone since I got the 4S on launch. I have no desire to sign another 2 year contract with AT&T anyway. I also use approx 6-8GB/mo. So...ya know.
So if your still under contract will you just wait until your contract is up and then switch. Its not like I love at&t or something I just have really good deal there that works for me. With my Fan discount, unlimited(although throttled data), $5 texting plan(more then enough with iMessage) and 450 minutes a month with rollover I pay $57 a month before taxes. Its hard to walk out on that. Good luck in whatever your plans are.
They changed it with the 4S, its 20 months now.
I bought my 4S the morning they went on presale. I'm hoping I qualify for the normal upgrade price.
Not the $199/299/399 price. You've had the phone for only a year.
So now that the new phones been announced, any current 4s owners get the fully discounted price of $299 for the 32gb?
If you look at my previous post I said the same thing and am in the same boat. I'm grandfathered and been with them since even before the first iPhone and always got the full discount. I guess we won't know until actual preorders kick in on the 19th though (as AT&T could change things from now until then right)? In the past, ATT has moved up eligibility dates for some customers when the new iPhone is announced. I bought both the the 4 and 4S on the launch date for the contract price, so I'm curious to see what they do with the 5. I have been with ATT since the original iPhone launch date. My understanding is that they take into account length of service and plan rate when deciding eligibility.
