MBP 1,1-10,2 Discrete GPU not switching on early 09 MBP 17"

Been a while since I've posted about this Macbook Pro (It's the early 09 17" with the GeForce 9400M/9600M GT combo), but I finally want to see if I can resolve this issue. In Catalina, I can't get the system to switch to the 9600 GT. I've tried both using the terminal and gSwitch, but neither have produced any results. I don't really use this a computer a whole lot so while it's not the end of the world, I'd really like to be able to switch to the dedicated GPU for better performance if I can. I almost exclusively use this on the power adapter, and the battery is a recently replaced quality unit that shouldn't be causing any issues.

Early 2009 17-inch MBP doesn’t support Catalina natively. What patcher are you using?

I don't remember, I believe it's the one used in the "running catalina on unsupported macs" thread, I did the patch a few years ago. I currently can't boot it up because I guess one of the things I tried did actually change the GPU and now it's made my weird power draw shutdown issue even worse as I can't get it to stay at the desktop for more than a minute before it turns off. Thinking I may need a new motherboard at this point. I did try all of the things I did to undo that switch but it's not having it and I'm stuck with a macbook that only works for a minute at a time now, very frustrating.

The only way to understand the real problem is to wipe the internal storage and install supported version of macOS. Ground zero. Reset SMC and NVRAM. Install macOS. Run hardware diagnostics.
