I've never seen this one before. What does it mean? How can a disk image make my computer less secure?

Since the DMG is sealed the OS doesn't know what it is, it's just a protection measure. If you know what you are opening is safe than don't worry about it.
 
I think the warning is simply alerting you that the image may be corrupt. Not sure how this could make your system less secure by trying to open it. I would try downloading the image file again and see if you still get the warning.
