Disk Image

So i'm realizing that a backup would be a good idea for when I install Tiger. I've been trying to use Disk Utility (is that the right choice?) to create a disk image of my home drive. I'm aiming to have it backed up on an external drive, but every time i attempt to it reports "device in use". Is this message referring to the home disk being in use? Is there any way to create a complete backup without using another computer?

Ok, it is Shareware. But it does everything and more than your program without paying a penny I am sure. If your program did more I am sure I would have heard of it by now.
