I keep getting this for all devices recently. Nothing wrong with any of the hardware and it happens on multiple ports/devices and just started happening. What can I do to fix this?

Happens when I wake the Mac mini M2 up.

Are you using a dock? Even if you aren't, check the cable. I used to get this all the time with OWC Thunderbolt docks, two of them. Ever since I changed to Apple's Thunderbolt cables (I am sure you can find cheaper cables that are more "click" or strong connection), I do not have this issue. I think a lot of cables are not high quality enough to have strong connections. The OWC supplied Thunderbolt cables are very loose.

"Happens when I wake the Mac mini M2 up"

Suggestion:
Don't put the Mini to sleep.
If it doesn't go to sleep, you won't have the problem when it "wakes up".

Instead, just put the display to sleep, or turn it off (if you're going to be away a while).
Let the Mini just sit there, "awake, but idling".

The difference in power consumption on a Mini between "asleep" and "awake but idle" is almost negligible, hardly anything at all.

Also go to settings and make sure the option to "put disks to sleep" is DISABLED.

You can set up a screen saver, perhaps with a hot corner (I use the upper right corner to put the screen to sleep). And protect with a password as well.

This isn't "a solution", per se -- just a work-around.
But it "works" for me.

This happens on my M2 MacBook Pro.

I used to have a CalDigit TB3+ and it happened a lot. I upgraded to a TB4 and it still happens, but less often. It only happens right when waking from sleep. I believe it's a subtle timing thing, where the USB finishes starting up shortly after the OS looks for the disks. Many things can influence timing bugs.

OK now. It just started happening repeatedly, whenever I wake my computer. This is new as of yesterday. Has some update been pushed out?

This has been happening to my M2 Pro Mini since the day I bought it. I have a Samsung T7 SSD connected for Time Machine and I get this message regularly. I'm sure this is actually a known bug in Ventura that Apple have never fixed.

My m2 Pro Mini does it once or twice a week.

That was my experience until just two days ago. As of Monday it now happens whenever I wake my computer.

The now-and-again disconnects have been happening for years, with my current and prior laptop and with my current and prior dock. I'd just learned to live with them. Something changed on 7/3 - pretty much right after I encountered this thread.

@Cicnod, you said

just started happening

When did it start happening?

Around July 3 or so

I know that a sample of two is not much, but the problem for you and me started on the same day.

In System Information, under Software/Installations, I only see a Microsoft OneDrive update on that day. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with this.

Do you use a dock?

I do use a dock and both drives would disconnect. I then went to straight connection and it also happened.

Which dock do you use? I use CalDigit TS4.

When you did a straight connection for a drive, did you still have another drive connected to the dock?

Got it on my 2015 iMac before it died. I had not ejected anything but it kept popping up. Now I keep getting it on my 2023 Mini when I wake it up in the morning.

I have a simple USB dock that turns 1 port into 4. Pretty basic that I ordered from Amazon. Used it for years on my old Mac mini with no problems and on the M2 Mac mini for months with no issue

Something to report...

For me the issue has always been that the disks are missing as the computer wakes up. I've always chalked it up to the USB not being ready fast enough, though that was just a guess. But, it's always right after waking up that the disk errors occur. I know this from reviewing the logs. The problem was intermittent, only happening once a week or so.

So why all of a sudden are my disks always ejected in the morning, starting on July 3? Well, I've just reviewed my logs and it appears my computer is being woken up every 2 minutes or so by network activity on WiFi. Therefore, the intermittent error will occur much more frequently now.

I'm not sure what device on my network has started doing that. I'm going to turn off "Wake for network access" to see if that fixes my issue. Apple put that setting in the "Battery" section of System Settings - pretty silly place to put it.

I just wanted to report that the problem for me has not been solved. Even though I disabled "Wake for network access", my computer is still being woken up every few minutes throughout the night. So, I'm still having disk eject errors when I log in in the morning.

Another thing I realized is that USB is very likely the problem with my ejects. Now and again, when I wake my computer, my keyboard is not responsive. I have disconnect and reconnect the keyboard to get it going.

I've had this issue on two M1 Mac Minis, but it only affects my M.2 portable drives(a Sandisk and an OWC TB enclosure). Both drives will eject themselves after a few minutes. Oddly enough, a Seagate and WD external drives that house my Time Machine backups and Media are perfectly fine. I don't use a dock and both drives have their own power supply.

I disabled WiFi and Bluetooth overnight and the system did not wake itself every 2 minutes. Instead, it woke itself every 20 minutes or so. Time Machine worked fine, with backups every hour. But still, when I woke my computer this morning, the disk immediately disconnected.

I think I'll contact CalDigit support. I suspect they'll point a finger at Apple.
