Hello Folks,

I'm trying to resurrect a HDD drive that is enclosed on a external case connected via USB. I checked the listing on the compatibility apps thread but not found (or at least not listed) as compatible to Mojave, my preferred macOS at the moment.

Tried Disk Utility (and it does recognize the HDD, albeit not mounted). Ran First Aid but indicates issues but cannot fix it.

Appreciate any suggestions or recommendations.

Regards.

How old is the drive?
It could have a hardware failure, or it could be corrupted software (drivers) on the drive.

You could take it OUT OF the external case it's in, and try another enclosure, or USB/SATA dock, etc. Sometimes this works, mysteriously... ;)

diskwarrior's saved me twice, but... not sure if it's compat with mojave. worth checking out tho...

Installed DiskWarrior v5.1 on a High Sierra MBP. My goal is not so much to recover files but to fix this HDD on an enclosure so I could reuse the 500GB or so of it. Thanks for the recommendation.

The HDD is really old (circa 2008). As far as the enclosure is concerned, that should not be an issue since I used it for an SSD drive. As I responded to Fishermann above, installed DiskWarrior v5.1. I just ran it and cross fingers, see how it goes. Thanks for the response and suggestion.

the drive is 10 years old? let it go; u can get a 1TB (or 2TB) really cheap these days. there's no point in using a really-old drive to store anything valuable on...

I wouldn't trust any data on it to be honest.

I fully agree.

Definitely agree as wll. I just wanted to use it as a sandbox HD, nothing important to store on. Too bad that all those storage go to waste.
