Earlier today my MacBook Pro was running unusually slow. I was going to restart it, but I had two updates to install, so I installed them and requested the restart when it prompted me for it. However, she never restarted! It would not continue past the bluish gray screen with the Apple:apple: and the circular waiting icon below it.

SO I called the help line. He told me to take the battery out and press the power button for 10 seconds and then try to turn it back on. No dice. Then he said try to press P, R, Option, and the Command key simultaneously while turning it on. It did not work. After that I tried pressing 'Shift' while turning it on, also fruitless. So the last option he gave me was to put the Mac OSX CD in and 'Repair Disc'. Well after a while it gave me this message:

The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired after 3 attempts.
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.

The errors listed in red in the details were "Incorrect number of thread records" and "Invalid volume file count".

I am just hoping there is something I can do without having to erase the hard drive because I haven't backed up in months. Do I still have options, or have I exhausted them all?
