I'm partitioning an external HD so as to install and run snow leopard on one of the partitions, but do not want to lose any data from the external drive.

Before i do this I just want to make sure that I am correct in thinking that partitioning in disk utility on a computer running leopard will not erase the external hard drive.

    Thanks

Yeah I'll set it to GUID. So if my external HD has 65 GB free it'll be fine and i won't lose anything? (sorry im really paranoid but i run itunes and iphoto off of it too!)

65GB are enough, but it has to be continuous.

In other words, not fragmented. That is, all bunched together in one, well, continuous "band" on the disk.
