Disk Utility in Snow Leopard did not erase photos? What?

I used an old PATA laptop iBook drive externally to boot my Mac Mini after i erased it and reformatted it to GUID etc., and did a fresh install of Snow Leopard.

I had to install Flash on it and then decided it didn't want it. DId a spotlight search on it, and lo and behold all these ancient photos from my laptop turned up in a search?

What is going on?

Spotlight returns results from all indexed disks.
