Disk Utility Won't Open

Hello -- I'm having a problem with my Intel iMac. I am unable to install any programs. If I double-click on a .dmg file I'm told that file/directory cannot be found. Everytime I try to open Disk Utility, I get an error that Disk Utility quit unexpectedly. This happen to anybody?

Hmm...maybe boot from your install disc and run Disk Utility from there?
