In Sonoma, when you open Disk Utility and see the OS and data volumes, they're still using the Yosemite-era icons. The OS (for most of you, probably "Macintosh HD") volume has the square Yosemite-era icon on it, not the more softly rounded square that Big Sur introduced. I think Apple forgot to update that specific part of the OS to use the newer Finder icon.

In Sequoia, has this been fixed? A small thing for sure, but am curious!

As far as I can tell, the sidebar icons in Disk Utility on Sequoia are the same as on Sonoma and Ventura (that is, generic proxy symbols).

I wish Apple reverted to the UI that shows real icons instead of their proxy symbols that look exactly the same for totally different volume types.

Maybe include a screenshot to show us what you're talking about?
Yes, here you go. Note the icon is circled in red to show what I'm talking about – the Finder icon is square and not slightly rounded, it's an artifact left over from the Yosemite-era UI that lasted between 10.10 until the UI was redone in 11.0.

It looks like Apple did it especially for you lol. You must be one of the fewer than 10 people in the world who ever noticed that.

Monterey uses the square Finder icon for the System volume badge.
What about the Home icon for the Data volume badge?

The old Finder icon appears in notifications like when a disk is disconnected before being ejected, I wonder if they fixed that too in Sequoia.

Can't say for sure whether it has square or rounded edges due to the use of a transparent background.
