what is the difference between Mac os extended (journaled) and Mac os extended
Non-journaled risks corruption if the system goes down unexpectedly. Journaled file systems keep track of the operations being performed and complete them on startup if necessary to maintain integrity.

Go with journaled unless that last bit of performance is worth the risk.
