Suggestion was to use TinyUmbrella to save SHSH from the iPad (3.2.2)

Found this out too late - at least that is what TU message says.

Any reason one can not 'clone' the entire iPad contents to a Mac OSX folder to archive for potential later restore?

There's no way to copy the "cloned" backup onto the device and get a functioning device.

Cloning the device is a lot more than just copying all the content of the disk into another location, you need to keep data structures, databases, users, partitions, permissions (just to mentioned a few), you need special software for that, DiskAid is not one of those (I haven't seen any to be honest), DiskAid just let you browser the file system.

If you miss the signing windows of the SHSH you are sorry to say out of luck, all you got left is just restore to the current firmware (at this time 4.2.1)
