I have noticed recently that when I burn CDs or put CDs or DVDs into my iMac that they are not mounting on the desktop/showing in iTunes unless I go to Disk Utility and force them to mount. This only started recently.

Looking for reasons, solutions, any help please thanks.

Even if I burn a CD in iTunes it is not showing on the desktop after or in iTunes. And yes I have the show CDs, DVDs, and iPods checked in the finder preferences along with Hard Drives and such. I didn't change anything but this started happening.

Running 10.5.1 on a 2.8Ghz 24" iMac.

Look in Finder > preferences - are the options to show DVDs etc. selected?

Ok, sorry - just read what you said in full!

I have no idea!!

I had a similar thing - my HD icon vanished and in the end I gave up and restored using Time Machine. Still don't know why it happened (I'm also running 10.5.1 on a PB G4)

I don't have TM set up yet, just got my external yesterday, and if I set it up now I am restoring this problem.
