I get $1/month Hulu and $2/month Disney add on. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Yeah I had that deal for a while from the last black friday, but with the AMEX credit I made the switch as I’d rather just pay the extra $10/mo to not have to deal with ads on either service (Hulu or Disney+) 🙂

Not only do the commercials start unexpectedly and are sometimes loud as hell, but my wife and I eat a very healthy diet and the last thing we need is commercials for pizza, fast food, restaurants, etc repeatedly shoved in our faces 😄

Disney has no ads at all on the Vision Pro which is the only place I watch Disney content. Hulu has ads that you can fast forward on the Vision Pro. So it works out perfect for me. unlike the competition Both are in 4K and have Atmos even with the ad plan

What content do you consider 'slop', and what programming do you value?
I'm curious because, without more detail, it's difficult to appreciate your point of view.

This will sound like trolling, but it is actually how I think about this:

All these corpos create programming for no other reason than to make streaming revenue. Shows and movies will be produced as a result of some business suits doing marketability projections, and then you find a team afterwards.
Money over artistry, basically.

What I appreciate instead, if a production is the result of a group of people really wanting to tell a story, and the financing is a means to accomplish that.

All that stuff we liked, it was an introductory offer to get us hooked, a cheap demo, even if it wasn't advertised as such. People selling stuff at a loss to win over competitors, making whoever has more money to waste on "gifts" the winner.
I mean, it may be time to sit down and talk about "the free market".
a Bait And Switch, so to say?

This is a complaint some have had about content creation (movies, television) and funding for ages, well before streaming services. Of course, content tastes/interests can be very subjective and change over time. In the end, one person's "slop" is another's desirable entertainment.

I just cut my Netflix subscription, which I've had for the past 10 years, due in part to the password crackdown (which I know is petty) and that I will re-subscribe on occasion to catch up on new shows/movies.

This allows me to free up money to enjoy new content somewhere else, in the meantime.

I've had Disney+ for a while, and they do not put enough new stuff on to retain my interest - so that is about to go, for the same reasons Netflix is gone.

Perpetually paying for the same subscriptions for these types of services is ridiculous, especially since password sharing/crackdowns further devalue them for me and the family.

Corporate greed makes rotating subs the name of the game now. 🤑

It’s not petty. This change is just for more money, obviously. There were no technical burdens or anything. It would be like if AT&T all of a sudden started charging me extra for my 2 brothers’ lines on our family plan just because they don’t live with me.

I don’t even share my password outside of my home, but I still canceled out of principle.

Now that the 2 largest streaming services have gone this route, expect all others to follow soon. I can’t believe so many people just bent over and took it from Netflix and now probably Disney. They’re still going to be increasing the price of all of their plans pretty much every year. People seem to not realize that if the majority of people canceled for just 6-12 months, these companies would get their heads out of their asses and stop being so greedy. Infinite growth is not sustainable.

Cycling subs is too much work and not worth it. I’m going back to the high seas and my home Plex server. I’ll start giving Plex money for the remote access.

💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

Yeah principle was behind my Netflix decision and will be what I recommend my family does with Disney

Seems pretty easy to live without any new content for a half year or so, and renewing only for a month every so often
