Disney+ Dolby Atmos bug with latest update

The Disney+ App on my Apple TV 4K (tvOS 14.4) has just auto-updated to 1.13.1 to support launch of the new Star TV service in the UK next week.

Unfortunately, this breaks playback of Dolby Atmos soundtrack on shows like The Mandalorian. No issues with Apple TV+ or Netflix shows which have Dolby Atmos sound.

The app on my LG OLED tv (48cx) has not been updated and plays back Dolby Atmos shows as before, so this must be a bug in the tvOS app. I have reported the bug to Disney+.

(just chiming in so you know you're not alone)

and it still has the same bug that's existed since tvOS 14 came out, if you're paused, and the screen saver starts, the video starts playing again under the screen saver.
I reported that months ago, and at least 2 versions of the app have come out since.

screen savers in general are not right in tvOS 14.
If you're paused, they don't match rate and range of whatever you're playing, so you get the big blackout on your TV as it changes whenever it stops or starts. I've reported to apple, and told "functioning normally" even though it looks like poo.

I pause video a lot so I run into this all the time, maybe others don't pause as much. yay ADHD!
 
I’ve had the same bug with audio restarting on Disney+ a few minutes after the screensaver starts when the video is paused.

Hopefully the app developers will be quicker fixing the Dolby Atmos bug.

Yeah I get that as well with video resuming after pausing when the screen saver activates, only happens with disney app, how they not fixed that yet!
 
Another “me too”. I’ve had the weird restarting when pausing for several months now, but noticed the lack of Atmos only seems to have started very recently. Glad I found this thread because I have been searching all over the Internet to see if anyone else had the Atmos problem.

EDIT TO ADD - I am in the US, where we will not be receiving Star. So the Atmos issue may be related to an app update generally, but not necessarily specifically to whatever changes they made for Star.

I should be on the most current version of the app. When I first noticed the problem last night, I deleted the app and re-downloaded it from the App Store. Still no Atmos.

there's a reporting form on their website, but it's all content related
"I want a new show" "this show has audio/video problems" "it's buffering"

there's no "your app has issues" option,
there is a chat option on the Bottom of the page, that I've tired once , and she was friendly, but I didn't get a good feeling that she understood or knew what to do with reports of coding errors.

Thank you for starting this thread. No more Atmos for me, either. Really hope this gets fixed faster than the screensaver bug.
 
So instead of fixing the bug, would-be Atmos content in Disney+ on Apple TV is now listed as 5.1 content instead :rolleyes:

Atmos is working fine for me o_O

now if they would just fix the bug that's been there since tvOS 14 came out where when the screen saver starts, it starts playing the show again, but under the screen saver.

Thanks fellas, you’re correct that it is now fixed. Guess in my previous troubleshooting efforts I had left Atmos disabled on the Apple TV.
