The "SE" "idea" has nothing to do with size -It's just reusing parts from an older model and updating some of its specs, mainly the main chip. The only thing keeping me from getting a new phone is literally the size of it. I love my 4-inch original SE. If they decide to go over 6 inches in 2023 or 2024, they´ll just kill the whole SE idea...
Although the idea of a $300 iPhone is appealing, I doubt Apple would like that ? I mean they actually had the opportunity to keep the XR for $400 and reduce the current SE price this year, but they didn't.I thought of that too - current SE may get a price drop to $299, and the "SE Plus" comes in at $399 with 5G support. I personally think that's crazy but who knows what Apple may do.
(It would make some sense if they plan on dropping the iPod Touch and push people toward a cheap SE, though.)
I'm certainly not holding out for an iPhone smaller than the Mini (and the Mini might not be around for long). I actually believe the audience for a small phone (iPhone5-size) is a small niche at the top of the market. At least in my case, I consume most video content (streaming services, etc) on a 75" OLED. I use my 27" Thunderbolt display or MacBook Pro for most other content. I would never watch a show or movie on my phone - I just need my phone to be a phone. But, at the low end of the market, many users have to make do with only one device, so a larger screen on their phone makes sense since that is where they consume all content.Personally I find the Mini to be the ideal size, but obviously I'm not going to tell anyone that their personal preference is wrong.
That being said, and looking at the reported Mini sales figures, my recommendation to all those grasping at straws for a truly small phone would be to not get your hopes up and make peace with slightly larger phones for now.
The average use case now just requires a larger screen and there doesn't seem to be sufficient demand for sub-6" phones. It's a shame but that's the way it seems to be.
With that being said, I'm fairly convinced that they'll move the SE to the XR/11 platform. The "SE idea," as another poster called it, was never primarily about being small but simply Apple's budget platform. It makes sense to put this in a popular yet outdated shell and sell at a discount.
I'm thinking this as well. There were rumours just over a year ago, that Apple were releasing a 'SE Plus', based on the 8 Plus body, Prosser even tweeted when it was going to be released, then took it back. If this SE model is going to have 5G, then it makes absolute sense to use the 8 Plus body with its larger 2,690 mh battery. Will be nice to see that beautiful notch-less 1080p 401pp screen again. That is why I‘m thinking that the SE Plus will be in a 8 Plus body. This thought was on my mind the past 2 weeks somehow and won‘t let go…🤷🏻♀️
I‘m also excited for that one..
Yeah! ?If this SE model is going to have 5G, then it makes absolute sense to use the 8 Plus body with its larger 2,690 mh battery. Will be nice to see that beautiful notch-less 1080p 401pp screen again.
Yes, in fact it was the SE 2020 that made me appreciate the more compact form factor actually. I brought it in order to downsize from the 8 plus as i love touch id and really disliked the notch on the face id iphones. I still like my 8 plus (and 6s+) though and look after it, great phone that is, especially the screen. I have since gotten the 12 mini for the retro iphone 4/5 look, feel and compact size, i know its got the notch/face id but nothing is perfect right! To answer your question though, i would seriously consider the 8 plus form factor if it was used for the SE Plus, mainly for touch id and the notch less screen. It is a large phone though no doubt about that.Yeah! 🙂
Do you like the small form factor too of the present iPhone SE 2020?
That 8 Plus body is as big as the iPhone 11.. do you find that too big? Just interested in your opinion. 🙂
Cindy, i love my 12 Mini, its actually smaller than the SE2 but has a larger 5.4“ screen. Can use it one handed no issues at all, and the square edge iphone 4 design is just beautiful. The screen is also 1080p so much sharper than the SE2 screen, although the 326 ppi screen on the SE2 is perfectly fine to use. You asked me about the OLED display, and personally i think its slightly better than the LCD screen, the higher resolution and contrast helps in this regard, but as i said earlier Apple make the best LCD displays on the market and they are easier on the eyes. Regarding Face ID, i cannot use it as it gives me eye pressure for some reason from the scanners, so i just use PIN.@snipr125: How do you like the mini?? I was very, very close to buy the 13 mini! I love this small compact size of it! It‘s just perfect!
But the Face ID and the Oled Display kept me away from buying it..
How do you like that Oled Display?
I remember having that Oled on the X and the Xs Max.. it was nothing special to me, sorry. How‘s about you?
Would you trade your 12 mini in for the next iPhone SE?
I‘m also owner of the new iPad mini 6 and loooove that little compact thing!!🙂 For 3 years now I had the iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2018). But my heart always belonged to the mini! I bought it and gave my parents that big iPad Pro. Don‘t regret it, the iPad mini 6 is my daily driver for surfing on the internet, watch videos, social media…Yes, it‘s a small tablet, but i looove it!🙂
To get back to the point: There is the new Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the Power Button of the iPad mini 6.. i wasn‘t even aware of it when I bought it last month. I like it, it has its failures from time to time but all in all works fine. It would allow future iPhone SE‘s a notchless Display maybe..🙂
To me the Touch ID in the Home Button is great and the Touch ID in the Power Button is a (very) good solution, let‘s say.. 🙂
And maybe we‘ll see the iPhone mini for the future SE‘s with that Touch ID in Power Button.. 🙏🏻
What do you think about the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in Power Button thing?
