If you are in the store, can you confirm if the extended return policy started today? Another poster mentioned in a different topic that their receipt says returnable until Jan 8th.

Yep--I asked and it has started. Just ordered mine.

I'm not sure why it's not being publicized. Last year there were a bunch of articles on the 14th saying "holiday return period begins today" but this year silence.

As for the screen grab--a screen grab will show if browsers are handling colors differently. For example, Firefox displays some colors on some websites more saturated than Safari (I notice the same thing on Firefox for Windows vs. Chrome though because I only have an sRGB 100% monitor it's not as noticeable as on a P3 display like the MacBook) and this can be seen with a screen grab.

All I can say is when I first saw the 16" in the store today, my first thought was how washed-out it looked (They were all at full brightness and in dark mode). When I disabled "automatically adjust brightness" I could see the colors changing (becoming more vivid) before my very eyes.

I swapped my unit out for another one, and I can say this display does look better... I do have this one in dark mode, not sure if that makes a difference? strange....

What you captured in the screen shot has nothing to with the display, though. No doubt things look different in dark mode.

Probably not a display issue. Colors can differ depending on the active GPU. On my 2016 MBP, colors appear warmer when the discrete GPU is running. Calibration and True Tone are two other factors that can change how colors look like.

I bought my 16" from Best Buy today. I can return the laptop through 1/14/2020. I don't know if that's the norm or if it's because I'm a Best Buy Elite Plus member. Either way its nice because It'll give me plenty of time to see if my new MacBook Pro is a keeper or not.

Make sure u calibrate your display and use the correct color profile in Display Preferences. I use Apple RGB and it makes a huge difference in contrast compared to the default selected profile.

Anyone get the base model ($2399)? I do really like it, however, the only thing I notice is the colors seem a bit different (compared to my old 2019 15" base model) , not bad just maybe a little less bright/saturated than the 2019 15"? or is this because its the baseline? anyone else seeing similar? Love the keyboard! Size is about same as the 15", not a big difference, thinner vessels are nice! speakers unreal!
I had a similar conclusion about the screen. I purchased the 16" 2799 model today and compared it to my early 2019 15" 2799 model and felt the 16" had a warmer screen and the colors appeared to be more washed out. Considering returning the 16" MacBook Pro.

Whether or not True Tone exists on a machine cannot be determined by a screenshot.
actually a screenshot is an accurate depiction, you don't really need to get into the weeds - sometime visually what you see is what you see...and I can say since I got a new unit today, it was the screen... clearly a difference between units...

This and a few other reasons is why I've decided to return my 16" I just purchased today. Now I love my mid 2015 15" all that much more.

well, not sure I'd return it to keep the 15", keyboard alone is enough for me... oh and the speed...

Wait this is actually a thing? Multiple people say the 16" has worse color than the 15"?

That's really disappointing.

I'll do a side-by-side when I get mine. If the 2016 model has better color, I'm returning the 16" for sure.

Likely more of the panel lottery as proven by OP, his replacement is much better. Just happens sometimes.

Or swap for another 16 like me. Now it seems fine ! Weird.

The red in Whackman's avatar does look different between the screenshot and my screen. Here's the difference illustrated in Photoshop (the two circles on the left are the two shades):
