Hi,

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" (base model) that I use with a mini displayport to HDMI adaptor. It all works fine except that my HDMI cable stopped working and I went ahead and bought a new one. The new HDMI cable works fine with my PS3 and PC but doesn't work with my MacBook Pro. My MacBook detects the external display but doesn't show anything on it. I know that the adaptor isn't broken because I have a HDMI to DVI cable that I use with a monitor. I'm confused as to what could be the problem.

I dont understand how you "know" your adapter isnt at fault?

You mention a cable (which I presume you've been able to test with another device) Great - you know the cable isnt at fault.

Have you tried the adapter elsewhere?

Is your Mac bang upto date? Wasnt there an EFI update for that model to address external display issues?

I know the adapter isn't at fault because I have a HDMI to DVI cable (HDMI on one end DVI on the other) that I use to connect it to a monitor. The new HDMI cable which I bought is the one that doesn't work as intended but it works with my other devices (PS3 and PC).

I'm definitely sure my MacBook is up to date as I normally check for updates or a regular basis.
