Display gap on LCD gone on iPhone 4

I thought that the higher the contrast ratio, the blacker it would be. When I turn on my ipod, I just want the apple logo to show, not the whole screen to light up, its a waste of energy. I think the OLED screens from sony have like 1 million:1 contrast so they must look nice.
