I have an old 800MHz G4 TiBook that had a nasty fall that broke its display irrevocably. I removed the display completely resulting in a headless Mac (albeit one with a slightly wonky keyboard and a severely cracked case). Its been running as a Mac server since. However, I want to put the latest release of Yellowdog Linux on it.

The problem I have is that although I can get the machine to boot from the CD, I can't get the external monitor to show the boot screen for Linux. I press the F7 display swap key but all I get is a light grey screen. If I boot into OS X then I can display switch to my heart's content.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a solution to my problem? I remember reading some articles that mentioned ways of fooling a Powerbook without display into thinking the top was closed (forcing it to sleep/external display) but I can't find them on the web now.
