I was using Apple map navigation this morning and the screen goes blank after 30 seconds while it’s in the map. Shouldn’t the screen stay on while I’m navigation mode?

How do I stop the screen from going blank??

This seems like a basic feature. In all the phones I’ve had if the map navigation is on, the screen always stays on. Windows and all android phones I’ve had worked this way.

It’s not a windows or Android phone. iOS has always worked this way.. If you want to have the screen stay on, this is your only option. As I stated, most iPhone users turn the screen on and off with the sleep/wake button. Auto-lock is exactly what is states, it turns off and locks the screen no matter what app your using. The screen will only stay on if you are interacting with the device.

Haven’t tried it on the X yet but my 7 screen would stay on throughout any trip I was making and I never had to change any settings to achieve it. Navigation would override the screen lock settings so I’d say the behaviour the OP is experiencing isn’t normal.
[doublepost=1521060386][/doublepost]Set my X onto a navigation and the screen hasn’t gone off once while posting these 2 messages so I’d say your experience isn’t normal.

Typically when you use maps to navigate your screen should stay on even with auto lock still on. I use Waze app and waze app when using prevents the screen to turn off even if auto lock is on.

No other way. Most use the sleep/wake button to turn the screen off. If that setting is on 30 seconds even your apps will shut down just like maps
Not really accurate. Even if you have auto lock on and set to 30 seconds or what have you, Apple Maps should prevent your screen from turning off when in use it for navigating. I use Apple Map or Waze on my X and my screen stays on when they are in use even though I have auto lock turned on.

I just set my auto-lock to 30 seconds and started a route on maps and everyone is right, the screen doesn't turn off. Something else must be causing the issue.

Another thing... when I start up navigation via Siri while my phone is locked, the screen will dim after 30 seconds. You have to physically go into the Maps app to get it to stay up.

That’s exactly what I did. May be I should open Apple map and Type in the address ??

Glad the mystery has been solved. A shining example of why MacRumors is a great place. A lot of people with good input.

I always input ahead of time (whenever possible).

Thanks. I’ll test it out on my next drive. iOS should still keep the screen on whether we start navigation using Siri or maps. How do we put this as a request in the next update??
