I see on YouTube that a user has resolutions available that cannot be selected by me. My U4021QW is connected to a Mac Mini M2 Pro via DiplayPort.

Anyone have any idea why the resolutions below are not available for me?

4608x1944
4096x1728
3840x2160

U4021QW certain scaling not available - Ventura 13.3?

If you look closely at the attachment, you will see that the option to show all resolutions is activated. Unfortunately I only get to see a limited number of resolutions?

Why does someone else (see photo Youtube) with exactly the same screen have the option to choose multiple resolutions?

That youtuber is probably using a different connection, or a different Mac model.
(What's that app that many use to show all available resolutions? SwitchResX should do it if nothing else will. )

Can you connect directly with USB-C and see if that makes a difference? Or try another DisplayPort adapter based on a different chipset?
Does SwitchRes give you any additional options?

Dell monitor is running on the latest firmware and Display Manager is also the latest version 1.1.1.0017.
Ventura 13.3 on a Mac Mini M2 Pro

Meanwhile replaced the displayport cable to Thunderbolt 4.
Unfortunately, not all resolutions are still available, don't get it?

Those 3840×2160, 4096×1728 and 4608×1944 resolutions are "low resolution" non-HiDPI modes and look like utter crap. Both the person in the video and you have the same issue: no HiDPI modes larger than 3840×1620. You can try SwitchResX to add them.

Or try another DisplayPort adapter based on a different chipset
There is no chipset in a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter/cable because it's the exact same signal, just a different connector.

I have just bought the same display and connected my MacBook Air m2 and MacBook Pro 13 2020 i7 using thunderbolt 4 cable came with monitor. I found out that set of available resolutions are different for these notebooks.

and the worst thing here that Intel MacBook has better hdpi options available rather then m2 air 😢

3360x1417 gives me more space on the monitor and looks better when I am working with Excel spreadsheets. I am dissapointed that different MacBooks have difference in the available scaling options.

You are lucky that you have 3840x1620 hdpi mode available. Any low resolution option even 3840x1620 on my Mac book looks ugly.

The non-Pro M1 and M2 have a smaller limit on the frame buffer. It’s the same with standard 4K monitors as well.

Actually the same picture was with Dell P2423DE. On MacBook Air m2 I had different scaling options available and they are also was worse than on Intel MacBook Pro 13 i7 2020. Worse means less resolution (scaling option) then on intel MacBook pro in HiDPI mode.

If anybody has MacBook Pro 14/16 M2 Pro/Max connected to this display could you please post here scaling HiDPI mode options available? I am thinking to replace air with pro due to this issue but wouldn't like to get the same problem. Intel is very loud and I am avoiding to use it.

Today found this thread on the forum and it explains issue with Apple silicon and HiDPI resolutions on 5k2k displays. So considering U4021QW doesn't support full resolution at 60Hz via HDMI I guess even new M2 Pro/Max won't have better HiDPI options then my m2 air. According Apple site new MacBook Pros supports more then 6k via HDMI only)

BetterDisplay app helped me to solve the issue. I can use 3072x1296 HiDPI resolution now or I can create Dummy Which will mirror to my Dell monitor with few HiDPI options up to 3584x1512. Personally I found that ideal scaling is "looks like 3360x1417" which available on intel MacBooks, but unfortunately BetterDisplay doesn't show this option for my M2 air.

Conclusion: All Apple Silicon Macs can run maximum 3008x1269 HiDPI for 5k2k monitors. BetterDisplay helps to extend HiDPI scaling options.
I decided to stay with my M2 air because it performs well and BetterDisplay helped to get more space on Dell monitor in HiDPI mode. I hope M3 MacBook Pros will support higher max resolution via Thunderbolt or Apple will solve this issue in next versions of MacOS.

Just in case: Native resolution (5120x2160) is also available, but everything is too small, so I am not considering this is an option.

I have bought Mac mini m2 Pro base model and would like to update regarding scaling options. I connected to Mac mini two monitors via thunderbolt DELL UP2720Q and DELL U4021QW and I got beautiful list of scaling options by default.
This Mac mini runs u4021QW in looks like 3840x1620 HiDPI. I am really happy with. I hope it helps others who is considering such kind of set up.

Now I can confirm that m2 Pro chip in Mac mini gives more options then m2 in Mac Book Air as it was mentioned by xraydoc.

UP2720Q also has more scaling options by default. I am running it in looks like 2560x1440 HiDPI but it also gives 3008x1692 and 3360x1890 option. Of cause both supports native resolution as well.
