Running the beta on an iPhone 8 or earlier, can anyone confirm that the display zoom view is still offered?

Thanks, J

This? Yeah. iPhone 6s, iOS 12.0 beta 1.

Actually I am extremely interested if display zoom has made its way on iphone X in ios 12. This is the only reason I had to return iphone X. Anyone who has iphone X and ios 12 installed, please help check and let us know.

Can someone running the iOS 12 beta on iPad Pro 12 please check whether 'Display Zoom' is still an option under Settings > Display & Brightness? (at the bottom)

Thank you

Hmmm oh well no X for me, I use zoomed mode all the time, not sure if I like a phone without it.
I’ll have to give the 8 Plus a go and if it’s too big go back to the normal 8, which although an improvement just doesn’t feel different enough to my 6S.

Really don’t understand why they’ve removed the zoomed screen mode from the X?

Thanks to those testing iOS 12 for checking :)

With Apple’s piecemeal approach to this feature, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the new iPhone models include it, and others don’t.

I agree but sadly that narrows anyone’s choice on phones if there vision is less than perfect.

Does anyone know why Apple doesn't offer this feature on all its phones?

On the 4.7” iPhone, the zoom presents the 4” UI, scaled up to fit the screen. On the 5.5” iPhone, zoom presents the 4.7” UI.

As you can see the zoom modes are already existing scales which the OS and apps already support.

The X adds an entirely new screen scale and ratio and there is no smaller one in its class to easily borrow. To introduce a zoom would require a new scale which app developers would have to support just for people who use zoom.

If there is an X Plus this year then I suspect there is a fair chance it will offer a zoom with the X’s scale. But I don’t think the X will get one.

Never say never though.

Yeah that would mean you’d have to spend a fortune and have the biggest iPhone to have the zoomed feature, if you wanted the new bezelless design.
I always use zoomed mode, but I’m not 100% certain of having a Plus sized iPhone.

Just hope and pray for a new small SE-X which the X can use for zoomed mode :D

I appreciate the explanation. Does this also explain why the iPad Mini does not include the zoom feature, while the iPad Pro 12.9 does?

I imagine so, yes.

It's also worth noting that the 9.7" and Mini already share a resolution (so things look smaller on a Mini because it's the same image as on a 9.7" but in a smaller area). it means the 9.7" can't really have a Zoom mode either.... or you could sort of think of it as already having a zoom, utilising the Mini's resolution... or that the Mini has a Zoom Out mode by default!

So, based on yesterday’s release of the new XS Max and ios12, does anyone know if Display Zoom is now actually available on the X-generation phones? Deal killer for me too.

No Display Zoom on iOS 12 with the iPhone X, therefore I don’t anticipate availability on the XS. No confirmation on the XS Max that I’m aware of.

I thought there might be a chance the Max would have display zoom which uses the regular one's UI, zoomed to fill the screen. But thinking about it, because of the fact the notch is the same size on both the regular and Max models, I don't think it would be a simple case of zooming by a certain factor like it was with square models, because the Max has proportionally more space around the notch, etc. It's still possible but requires more of a custom solution, which may be why Apple didn't do it. I think Apple only ever added Display Zoom because it was an easy freebie because of the existence of smaller iPhones with the same shape.
